The Amazing Two

My dear baby Nana,

On 26 June 2015, you made me a mother. On 26 June 2016, you turned 1 year old and today you are turning 2.

Where does all the time go?

In this year, you learned how to walk, run, jump, talk, sing, speak, communicate, draw, read books, make friends, bite and push other kids, greet, said sorry and thank you, being compassionate and expressing yourself. You are developing your own little character throughout your first birthday until today. You are demanding, sometimes annoying but yet you are very loving. You impress me every single day on all the tiny little milestones that you achieved. I’m truly grateful that I’m there, to be with you, to witness all of them and to teach as well as learn together with you.

You speak Malaysian English, Cantonese and a little bit of Mandarin. By age of 2, you can speak a short sentence with 3 different languages. You are truly Malaysian.

You still hurt yourself every now and then because sometimes I’m not fast enough to run towards you and protect you. You are very petite in size as to compare to your age and sometimes I get comments from strangers as if I starve you and ate all the food myself. Sometimes we eat out when I’m too lazy (or frustrated to cook). There you might have eaten some msg or whatever seasoning that isn’t good for your health. Sometimes I ignore you because I’m too tired (or lazy) to response. I just wanted to let you know that I’m not a perfect mother. But I’m trying to be as good as possible, to love and to protect you with everything I have.

Thank you for calling me “mummy mummy mummy” endlessly. Thank you for giving me a pat on my shoulder when I told you “mummy is sad”. Thank you for letting me sleep in a little bit more in some days without waking me up and greet me with your charming smile with your best “good morning mummy” greeting every morning. Thank you for kissing me good night before you go to the bed. Thank you for loving me wholeheartedly every minute every second until you need to peak on me when I’m on the toilet doing my business. Thank you for running towards me and hug my leg when I’m in the kitchen cooking our meal just because you wish I can sit down and play with you. Thank you for giving me a thumbs up on the food I cook for you. Thank you for testing my limit and challenge my patience. Thank you for giving me joy and laughter. Most of all, thank you for being my friend and spending these beautiful moments with me.

Horas, Danau Toba!

It’s our annual trip and from 13th – 17th Sept 2013, exactly one year ago, we heading to Lake Toba, Northern Sumatra, Indonesia.

Lake Toba is the site of a massive super volcanic eruption that occur many thousands years ago, and it was the largest known explosive eruption on Earth. The moment I knew the history of this particular lake, am really impressed.

We flew from different places and meeting up at Medan; from Kuala Lumpur, Pekanbaru, Penang, Singapore and Kuantan. Then we start our journey to the ‘danau’ (it means lake in Malay) and it tooks about 5-6 hours bus ride. It was a very tiring journey, but despite all the tiredness, we are glad that we could meet up and gather together. Well, after 5-6hours bus ride we finally reached the jetty where it’s the place we wait for the big ferry which bring us to across to the island where all the resorts located. And, we waited for a great 4-5hours to finally reached our turn to go in. GOSH! We accidentally bump into the same weekend of the “Festival Danau Toba” which there’s lots of happening events, which is great, but, it explain why the queue to the island is so long as well. At 2am local time, we finally reached the resort and everyone is superb exhausted.

But the scenic view of the lake does worth all the waits. We went for sight-seeing, cruise, swim at the lake (which is really hard, haha, as we need to use lots of energy to make ourselves float and move around compare to swimming in the pool or by the sea.). Oh, and we had one very “magical night” as well. 😀

We spent around 2 days here and then we head to Berastagi, where by the time we visiting Mt. Sinabung near the hill towns of Berastagi erupted again! Gosh, and  by the time we visited Berastagi, it’s full of ashes and it’s not suitable for sightseeing. Anyhow, we head back to Medan after a night stay at the town. We did nothing much but just walking around and enjoying some Chinese delicacy around the town.

A short trip, pretty tiring, few of us experience food poisoning and fever during the trip but then, it’s good to be able to meet up and travel together with my dear friends.

Developing My First Contact Prints

It’s amazing to watch your pictures appear slowly, fading in like magic after long hours of staying inside a dark room. The feeling of getting your first photo developed is indescribable.

I’ve been shooting since many years ago and this is the first time that I developed my own roll of film. Black and white isn’t my thing, I don’t know why. Perhaps, I enjoy looking at bright and colourful pictures more. That’s one of the reasons why I’m into Lomography as well. When there isn’t any colour on your pictures, all that’s left is the composition of the objects that you shoot. It’s not easy to shoot a “breathtaking” black and white picture, in my opinion.

Carrying my Lomo spirit — I don’t think, I just shoot! All that matters is that I’m going to develop the film on my own later inside the darkroom! Feeling so excited, we started the developing process at 2pm. I’ve forgotten how many processes I’ve been through and how many chemicals we used — the washer, developer, how many seconds and ‘shakes’ I made. Finally, after a few hours, here are my first contact prints ever!

00

And here are the results of the pictures I took that day using Olympus XA:

 00003 04 05 0602 07 08 13 16 020 023 026 027 30 3133 34 35 36 37 39 40 41

It feels great. It’s like watching yourself giving birth to a baby. (Well, I might be exaggerating a little but it’s the best I can do to describe my feelings that very moment, haha!)

And we had some time chilling at the old Bok Tjuv while waiting. 🙂 Nice space.

We spent one whole day shooting and developing. It’s really tiring and you need a lot of concentration and patience, but it’s really a memorable experience for me and the credit goes to my developing teacher, Dihyang! Special thanks to Sengkit as well, my shooting partner of the day.

Hahaha! I know it’s nothing related to the title at all, but I loving how the green collide with the yellow and black. It reminds me of an icy cold lemonade drink. 🙂 Oh, and it’s a spontaneous shots taking place at a car park.

Taken by Canon F1 x Efiniti UXI 200 and Canon AE-1 x Lomo Xpro 200. Check out the difference texture of both films. A spontaneous collaborations with PlusMinus.

This Sums Up My 2013

2013, it’s been a really bumpy year for me. They said it’s because of the turn point of 29, where there will be lots of obstacles. Which is so true in my case, I had a major change in my career and life. This dramatic changes in life gives me so many space to imagine and to execute my imaginations into something real even thought it’s not a smooth journey. Anyhow, it’s a good one, it’s been a great year.

To count my blessing, my sis give birth to my little potato nephew, a new member in the family which is the most happiest thing that ever happen to me in this year. He’s super duper adorable, hyper-active and a very naughty baby! He’s now the king of the family. He grow up very healthy and he started to walk in his 11 months. He’s going to be a great man in future. And in one week time, he’s 1 year old! 😀

Hello Potato Boy. You look blur here XD

C015420-R1-04-4A

And the charming innocent face of a baby? Haha! 😀

Few of my close friends getting married this year. Ah Gui, Mee Mee, Ah John, Tuck Foong and few other buddies as well. Besides, some of the close friends married, get pregnant and giving birth as well! My lovely Jane (Rex-Rex), Edmund (Zhi Hin), Ah John (John Junior), last but not least Mee Mee, who is just giving birth to his beloved son (Ham Ham) today. I will be visiting Ham Ham later today at the hospital. At the age of (almost) 30, friends are getting married one by one, starting up their brand new life with their brand new family, I’m really touch and so happy for them. On the other hand, I realise we are all getting older and wiser now.

And yea, I stop working for Lomography. It’s been an awesome journey with the team. I live the life as how before I join the team. To have more stress-less sleeps at night, to be more laid-back and to walk with a slower steps. And because of that too, I have more time for myself. I take a long break this year, to learn the art of doing nothing (:P) and to learn something new. I bake cupcakes during my free time, I learn to do some leather projects as well. Somehow this gives me some satisfaction while killing some free time. I read more, I started to buy more books to read. I start up ahevaeva.com; to showcase some of my projects. Anyway, to be part of the Lomography team is somehow something I’m very happy of. I learned a lot, I saw myself grow. Besides, I had one last appearance representing Lomography Malaysia earlier this year at NTV7’s breakfast show, summing up my 2012. 🙂

A new friend I met from the show who happens to be my neighbour (ohmygodmyjawdrop & thisworldissosmall) and two beautiful host of the show.

On the leisure part, I went to a two-weeks backpacking trip at Taiwan this year. Taiwan is indeed a very awesome country. Unfortunately I met a minor accident during my stays there in Taiwan, and some plans/itinerary of the trip change. Yea, 29, obstacles. Sigh. Anyways, I go thru it and I still manage to enjoy myself there, with a slower steps and meet some new friends along the way. (Will blog more about this Taiwan trip.) Then I went to Indonesia twice this year, one to the Lake Toba with my unimates and one to Bali, to celebrate my big 29th birthday with Alex. It’s my 2nd time to Bali and this round we only stays at Kuta, did nothing, laid back, sleep a lot, and eat whole lot of awesome food. It’s a very relaxing holiday indeed.

F1300033

Yea, I’ve been wearing my polka-dots slippers for the whole trip as I hurt my leg and it’s pretty swollen to wear a shoe 😦

F1170002

But it’s really beautiful in Taiwan.

My happy friends at our Lake Toba’s trip/gathering. 🙂

Had numerous of photo-shooting this year and I had lots of fun clicking the shutter! And, I get a new SLR for myself (yeahhhh!) and now I’m still in the process of getting used to all the settings and things like that. Can’t wait to share more of my work with the SLR here.

C015420-R1-05-5A

Ahh, and I became a one day actress in a video shooting on the Papercranes’s Malaysia Workshop hosted by 3PM. Haha, the outcome is super cute, but I’m too shy to show it here. 😀

C010882-R1-37-38

Oh and, I start driving. 😀 I manage to overcome my fear on the road. Well, when you believe you can, you CAN! Good bye (super sucks) public transport. 🙂 Not to forget some new friends I met along the way, and the bonding time with my Lomo overseas friends as well.

And last but not least, I gain (whole) lot of weight this year. God, my resolutions for 2014 remain the same – To Lose Some Extra Kilos. 😛

C010867-R1-36-37

To sums up my 2013, it’s tough; but it’s a meaningful year to me. I’m looking forward to a better 2014. Happy New Year 2014 to everyone who stop by and saw this, enjoy each and every moment as if it’s last!
